“JPS came up with a complete vision for our large garden that we would never have got to ourselves, and I would say that this is their main strength as designers. JPS kept track of the things we said we liked about the present one, and managed to incorporate them in something utterly new. Work implementing it is not yet complete, but already we can see that the design is 100% successful – on its way to being a major asset for the house. The design has mostly hard landscaping close to the house, and moves by degrees through a relatively formal lawn and planting area to a naturalistic zone with a large pond, wild-flower meadow and orchard. There’s also a terraced kitchen garden and greenhouse in a corner where the slope faces away from the house. Walking round the garden there is now a real sense of being drawn into an exploration, and there are half a dozen different places to sit and enjoy it – some secluded, some with a view, some in the sun at various times of the day, and always somewhere with shade at the height of summer.
