The design has mostly hard landscaping close to the house, and moves by degrees through a relatively formal lawn and planting area to a naturalistic zone with a large pond, wild-flower meadow and orchard. Walking round the garden there is now a real sense of being drawn into an exploration, and there are half a dozen different places to sit and enjoy it – some secluded, some with a view, some in the sun at various times of the day, and always somewhere with shade at the height of summer.
